Just dug this out from my old old blogs and thought I’d share one of my more memorable 2004 experiences.
So back in my Asian American marketing days, I was invited to go to a press conference for Kelly Hu’s recent Public Service Announcement promoting Asian Americans to Register to Vote. The slogan for her campaign - “Least Likely” - meaning Asians between the ages of 18-25 are the “least likely” ethnic group to participate in elections. Pretty sad, huh?

Ya, I look stupid, but I was still in shock. Even still, Kelly was extremely nice and very accomodating when we asked her to come party with us in Hollywood to help her promote her Rock the Vote campaign.
Here was the campaign I came up with for the party:
How will they know if we want change?
How will they change if we’re not heard?
How will we be heard if we don’t vote?
How will we vote if you’re not registered?
Register Now!
Ya, so that took me 15 minutes to figure out and once we had that going, we contacted our partners in Hollywood and organized the promotions and party in less than 4 days. We sent email blasts, set up banners and contacted all the major news services to come cover the event.
The party ended up being really fun. Kelly addressed the crowd (over 1000 people) on the dancefloor (tried to get her to dance, but she said she forgot her dancing shoes). We set up a booth for Kelly to sign autographs and to also register people to vote. To be honest, I got a little buzzed, but it was all in good fun.
At the end of the day, it was a great experience to work with Kelly, Mark and everyone else. On that day, I felt like I did my part to give Asian Americans a voice.
Ahh . . . good times!

I just watched that MTV commercial, but didn’t realize it was a commercial - I was sitting there thinking “Damn! This trailer is sick!”
Then I saw the end… Pretty cool commercial though!
To bad Kelly forgot her dancing shows!
