Adscape gets BAM-Googled for $23M

Posted in Tech News on February 16th, 2007

google.pngFollowing Microsofts lead of purchasing Video Game advertisers, Massive Incorporated - the world’s first video game network - Google has taken it’s first steps into the video game advertising arena by purchasing Adscape for a reported $23M. Adscapes main selling points to Google were their dynamic advertising tools which places ads directly on the screen during gameplay and also their SMS/Email System allowing two way text.

Relative to Microsofts $200-400M purchase of Massive, this is a rather small deal for Google and one should not expect any major ad deals coming with blizzard or EA. The move is merely another move to help Google position themselves better when online gaming reaches it’s tipping point in the near future. On the other hand, having only invested $3.2M and having it turn into $23M in 5 years (Adscape was formed in 2002) is a big time win for the Adscape Team and represents another online success story to inspire us all.
