AppleTV is Just Average for Now
I’ve been using my AppleTV for almost a week now and here are some observations I have made:
Likes
- The Potential of overtaking my Cable Service
- Accessibility to my Media
- Makes watching Video Podcasts a better experience
- Looks like it’s Hackable
Don’t Likes
- Doesn’t always sync with my iMac
- Having to convert all my media to .mp4
- Stays pretty warm when not in use.
- No Volume Control
So far, I’m still on the fence about whether or not I want to return my AppleTV back to Apple or not. The biggest reason I don’t just go and trade this in for a MacMini is because the MacMini doesn’t have Wireless N capabilities yet. I would recommend this product only to those who aren’t as adept to learning terms like “codecs” and “Divx” and are comfortable paying for films and music straight from iTunes.
I said I’d give a review of the AppleTV by now, so if I had to give it a grade right now, I would give it a “C” since it doesn’t do anything spectacular for me just yet. At least a lot of modders out there are working hard to enhance the capabilities of the AppleTV, so expect to see another grade coming soon once I incorporate those “add-ons”!
