    Someone beat Kobayashi!

Joey “Jaws” Chestnut just beat Kobayshi’s record of 53.5 hot dogs by downing 59.5 hot dogs in 12 minutes! I was so close to getting to 53.5 . . . now I have to train even harder!

How many hot dogs can you eat in 12 minutes? Who would be down for a online hot dog eating contest for the Official Bloggers Hot Dog Eating Championships where you’ll record yourself live or we’ll skype it and broadcast it? I just thought of that, but if there’s interest . . . . we’ll do it on July 4th, just like the “offline” championship!

    • derrich 6.26 pm on 04.06.2007 Permalink

Awesome! I saw him ALMOST beat Kobayashi last year, but couldn’t quite do it. I’ve gotta send this to my friends.

    • Shawn Knight 6.57 pm on 04.06.2007 Permalink

Hrm, I thought these were only held on July 4th? heh
Id be up for it, but only because I like hotdogs hah.

    Jay-Z Rehab Remix Lyrics

Inspired by Ed Lau and Ms. Danielle‘s posts on music, I thought I’d show my Top 40 musical tastes and give my 2cts on my song of the week – Amy Winehouse featuring Jay-Z – Rehab Remix. Story goes that Jay-Z’s such a big fan of the British soul singer, that he took her song to the shop and added himself on it with a little witty flow of his own! I have to say that I was already diggin’on Winehouse before the remix cuz of her unique sound and interesting history, so I’m not jumping on the Winehouse bandwagon cuz of him. If you don’t know her sound yet, check her out.

Here’s a link to the remix – Amy Winehouse featuring Jay-Z Rehab Remix

If you don’t know who Amy Winehouse is, here’s a video clip of her i found on Youtube:

If you’ve been looking, here’s the Lyrics Jay-Z added to Rehab (couldn’t find it on the net, so I transcribed it myself and I missed some stuff . . tough!):

More money, more checks,I’m addicted to fresh
Six pair of kicks is my definition of 12 steps
Kick back in the ‘bach, get the phantom to drop
Bass blarin outta my system, thats how i detox
O when will he stop, he still pumpin that real sh*t
My flow so dumb, my face is numb, n*gga,i dont feel sh*t
Wheres a therapist? Yea I’m outta control
They tryna make me go to rehab, I won’t go, no
And so I’m addicted, I’m Britney, Whitney, and Bobby
Betty Ford ain’t ready for it, ain’t nothin can stop me
O look he’s collapsin, just look how he’s rappin
Everytime I try to get out it pulls me back in
Amy should have rehab’d him,’stead she doubled his ration
Can you blame me for being a slave to my passion
My heron flows more deeper than marilyns nose I’ma o.d. till I’m in peace like Anna Nicole, hov!

Update – Thanks to T’Ashlee for giving me the real lyrics!!!

Use Blogging Tools to Pimp Your Pad

    room.png

I have a friend that just bought a place in West LA, which means he has a brand new canvas of open space to work with to place furniture and stuff. Having been inspired by Apartment Therapy before (See Above), I thought it would be a good place to get some of the latest ideas and low and behold, they just had their 2007 Smallest Coolest Apartment Contest.

AT Smallest Coolest Apartment Apartment Therapy Smallest Coolest Apartment Apartment Therapy Smallest Coolest Apartment

Many of you might think that some of these places cost a fortune to decorate, but I’m here to tell you that you can use the power of your RSS Reader to pimp out your pad for cheaper than you think. (What is RSS?)

Most of you know that Craiglist is the greatest place to find almost anything you need, following the motto “One man’s garbage is another man’s treasure!” In Los Angeles, I know that the furniture section is one of the best places to find hidden treasures, but the hard part is knowing when those hidden treasures reveal themselves.

Well, that’s where RSS comes in. I’m a big fan of West Elm Furniture, so before Craigslist put the RSS Feature, I would just go to Craiglist > Furniture and then do a search for “West Elm.” The hard part was knowing when the furniture is being listed, so you can be the first one to email and call dibs on it. The problem is solved with the simple RSS link that Craiglist added to the bottom of their search results as shown here:

    clrss.png

Click on the “RSS” link and you’ll get a long url that looks like this:

    http://losangeles.craigslist.org/search/fur?query=west+elm+futon&minAsk=min&maxAsk=max&addTwo=by-owner&format=rss

Now put that url in your RSS reader and you’ll know when someone is selling a West Elm Futon as soon as your reader refreshes it’s feeds! Since Craigslist started their RSS feature last year, I’ve found a bunch of furniture for my place for an average saving of about 65% off retail prices. Maybe if you hurry, you can get some new furniture and enter my Best Home Workstation Contest which will be ending this month, so get a move on!

And since you’ll be adding feeds to your reader, don’t forget to copy and paste my feed to your reader if you haven’t done so already: http://feeds.feedburner.com/MrGaryLee – Thanks! You’re the best!

my friend just moved from Chicago to Milwaukee a few months ago so i’m sure his stuff is all gone. he finished med school to start his residency over there. you might want to check around craigslist when school’s out bc even though those doctors are broke when they start their residencies this summer, they’ll have stuff to give away. and let’s be real, they’re not THAT poor… lol

Nope. I tend towards, I guess I would call it Zen Modern. Although I do like dark orange (like your blog color) which is a dominant color in home decoration in South Africa. I have a Japanese-influenced bookcase, a Mission/Arts and Crafts styled armoire and like Noguchi. The problem is that pimping my pad is not a priority.

    • J D Moore 7.29 am on 06.07.2007 Permalink

Interesting idea, I guess you could apply it to dating stuff too. You could set up an RSS feed to show you left-handed arm-wrestling investment bankers age 25-30 who enjoy Orson Welles movies.

    Free Man vs. Free Woman

I was sitting next to Ms. Danielle today and she was chuckling to herself about a little story her friend had sent her. I asked her “what the hell are you laughing at?” and so she sends me this:

    World’s Shortest FairyTales

“Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl, “will you marry me?” The girl said “NO” and she lived happily ever after and went shopping, drank martinis with her friends, always had a clean house, never had to cook, had a closet full of shoes and purses, stayed skinny and was never farted on.
    The end”

So I decided to write about what happened to the guy:

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl “will you marry me?” The girl said “NO” and the man lived happily ever after and went golfing, always held the remote control, ate bacon and eggs every morning, owned a flat screen in every room of his house, never watched the oscars or figure skating, stayed out late, never went bald, never used Viagra, never had a heart attack and never had to buy tampons from the supermarket.
    The End

Gare, you forgot to include the title of the story in the introduction: “World’s Shortest Fairytale.”
      Thanks, Phoebe! LOL

    • Phoebe aka FunkMastaFeebz 5.02 pm on 09.05.2007 Permalink

hahaha you guys are hilarious. Hmm I think i want to edit the story so i can have gary’s version integrated to the female version. i like golf, i like flat screens, i like control over the remote, i dont like the oscars or ice skating, i love bacon and eggs, and as for the tampons at the supermarket…i just steal my sister’s supply or Danielle’s. hehe LOL

D~~gotta take over the world!! Bakersfield check haha!! YUCK!

    • msdanielle 5.21 pm on 09.05.2007 Permalink

once upon a time gary asked a woman to marry her. she said “no.” phoebe beat the living sh*t out of her, and her and gary became best friends. they went golfing together, ate carne asada burritos all day long, had their own tvs and remotes, stayed out late and drank martinis, bought each other shoes, and took turns stealing tampons from msdanielle.
      the end.

    • bariablog 12.40 am on 10.05.2007 Permalink

30 years after she said no they met at a bowling alley and shared a quart of coke. As their eyes met over the cheesy nachos love was rekindled, but as they moved towards each to for their first ever kiss his oxygen cylinder fell over and caught the the valve on her colostomy bag.

Their joint funeral was attended by 2 nurses and a dog walker.
      Moral:
LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED (and a flat screen of course.)
      Postscript:
MEN: To achieve true love all you need are the magic words – “YES DEAR.”

Oh it is great. That is my current situation. Close enough for planned visits, but too far for the dreaded ‘drop by’. Plus we have 2 different sets of bars/clubs to go to :)

This was really cute and inspiring. Especially since I hate being farted on!

owned a flat screen in every room of his house,
never watched the oscars or figure skating

These two are the most significant. Good going!

Japanese People are Funnier than you Think

I was visiting Saman’s blog last week and noticed that he was on a video posting rampage, which reminded me of one of the funniest videos I saw last year called “Silent Library!” It basically is a comedy bit set in a library where a group of 6 guys pick cards and the odd man out has to perform a pre-designated task. This one had me laughing so hard my office, I was sweating. By the way, I tried posting the actual video feed on my blog, but YouTube sucks and wouldn’t let me, so all i have for you is a screenshot link to the youtube page:

Random Observation: Someone is BUMPIN’ Spice Girls in my complex right now! 2 Questions:

    • Who the hell bumps Spice Girls?
    • Who the HELL bumps Spice Girls on a Saturday Morning!?!?!

Haha all the Silent Libraries are hilarious. Also check out Japanese Cannot Laugh Classroom: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQ4gQ04y8TE

Oh man, I’ve seen this vid before but it never stops being funny! It’s really messed up how there’s only really two people who keep on getting jacked!

    • danielle 4.10 pm on 24.03.2007 Permalink

are those people in the back really studying? hahaha!! this is a great video…

Is Saman starting a wave of some sort…

What’s the librarian doing? Is this a real library?

      So damn hilarious!

    • Jon Lee 6.54 am on 25.03.2007 Permalink

Haha I’m pretty sure its not a real library ;)

    • Saman Sadeghi 11.22 am on 25.03.2007 Permalink

I’m on such a video posting rampage that this was the first video I posted, that was like three months ago!

      Still a great video though!

    • Gary Lee 8.25 pm on 25.03.2007 Permalink

oh man . . didn’t even know you posted this video too! at least it’s not getting old yet :)

    • Gary Lee 9.35 am on 26.03.2007 Permalink

It’s a set for sure! The big guy is a UFC fighter while all the other guys are famous japanese comedians! Imagine if you did this in a real library!

    My WorkStation

I was just checking CareerRamblings via Jeff Kee’s review, which then lead me to an interesting article about Increasing Productivity with Dual Monitors. I thought it was a pretty well written piece and it also gave me a chance to post a picture of my dual monitor setup at home, which I’m proud to say is the Number 1 rated setup on 123macbook.com =) I’m also proud to have just crammed 4 links in this tiny post!!!

i’d like to see a picture of ALL your apple gear. lol

    • Jeff Kee 10.37 pm on 11.03.2007 Permalink

I don’t have dual displays, but I have a 17 inch beast of a laptop. I don’t really need a dual display.. Although I do have a 36 inch LCD i sometimes hook up to via S Video cable.

Nice setup, I would be lost with the apple though!

Have dual 19″ LCDs at both my office and home office. Every nice for doing development work.

Nice setup. I wish mine were Mac instead of Windows. Do you play movies while working? I noticed what looks like a DVD player. I need to figure something out to get CNBC pumped to one of my monitors. Any cost-effective suggestions? Please don’t say “Get a Mac” I want to, just a matter of time.

    • Gary Lee 10.32 am on 12.03.2007 Permalink

I do 75% of all my work from my MacBook, but some times, I just have to sit down at a desk and hammer out sites or reports and a dual screen comes in great for that! I think your 36 in LCD would be pretty good too, but I think you’re limited to how high the resolution can go – 1024? I sometimes hook up my macbook to a 32″ lcd, but it’s way too bright for me to look at for too long!

    • Gary Lee 10.34 am on 12.03.2007 Permalink

here’s my apple whoreness coming out – Apple really isn’t that hard to learn. I’ve been able to “switch” 5 people in the last 6 months and all have been able to pick it up within a month. Now they tell me they can’t believe they took so long to switch – ok commercial over :)

    • Nathan Drach 11.27 am on 12.03.2007 Permalink

Since I do windows based development, it will be a cold day in hell when I switch. ;)

Don’t think Visual Studio will be out for Mac anytime soon, or will it?

    • danielle 12.40 pm on 12.03.2007 Permalink

get a mac mini.. hehe… sorry someone had to say it

    • Saman Sadeghi 1.47 pm on 12.03.2007 Permalink

    Picture of the Week

Will creative advertisements like these ease the pains of sitting in traffic or just cause more traffic from gawking drivers already too busy putting on makeup, scarfing down their fast foods and talking on the cellphones?
