I have my Name in my Domain! Do You?

March 6th, 2007

I’m in a list mood today, but don’t want to annoy too many people so I’ll try to control myself at two for today!

Inspired by the Dot Com Mogul Rules and the Tech List which came from JMH Techtronics, I thought a fun and unique list to start creating would be the Name in My Domain List - pretty catchy, huh? As we all know, picking a domain name for your new blog is one of the hardest things to do, but there are the few of us who are narcassistic enough to bypass the thinking and put our own name in the domain name.

The Rules
To be included on this list - the real name of the author must be included in the domain name. I was thinking about saying that you have to include your whole name in the domain, but honestly, it’s the Name in My Domain list, not the Full Name in My Domain list. Also, subdomains of your current sites do not count for sure. That’s just cheating. Good thing I remembered to mention that! You will see what I’m talking about as you see the list below.

Instructions

***Start Copying Here***

1) Write a short introduction paragraph about what how you found the list and include a link to the blog that referred you to the list.

2) COPY the ENTIRE List below and add it to your blog. To avoid duplicate content and increase the amount of keywords your site can accessible for, go ahead and change the titles of the blog. Just don’t change the links of the blog.

3) Take “My Adds” and move them into the “My Originals” list.

4) Add 3 Brand New Narcissistic Bloggers that you know of

My Adds

Nathan Drach
Saman Sadeghi
Kumiko Suzuki - sorry, but you got voted out

My Originals

Gary Lee
Ed Lau
John Chow
Nate Whitehill
Stephen Fung
Michael Kwan
Jeff Kee
Stuart Hannig
Hannes Johnson
Nomar
Jimi Morrison - *Update* - Please Add Jimi (originator of the Tech List) to your List as this was forgotten in the Original
***Stop Copying Here***

I really can’t wait to see how far this progresses. I hope this list becomes a mile long so I don’t feel too narsassistic.

Gary, looks like you have a messed up link tag around the first two links in the Originals. Unless of course that was intentional. :)

  2. March 6th, 2007 at 13:39 | #2

Got it . . thanks for looking out!

  3. March 6th, 2007 at 16:13 | #3

i’m coining these “the ego blogs.” every blogger has to have one now, in addition to their specific-topic blogs. (johnchow + TTZ, mrgarylee + agloco101, etc..) i guess i can’t play this until i get my ego blog up. boooo….. but should be up and running by this weekend! ;)

  4. March 6th, 2007 at 23:14 | #4

What can I say? I have a easy, brandable name and I’m very very happy with it. I will use it all the time.. I’m holding onto the jeffkee.com domain for a long long time.

  5. March 7th, 2007 at 01:31 | #5

Definitely. Since it is your own name, I won’t be surprised that you should be holding it for the rest of the life, if you could!

  6. March 7th, 2007 at 08:07 | #6

I am big in Japan and now on the internet.

At some point I will have to split my person/humor post off to a new blog/section and start doing more technical post. Really didn’t plan on getting any traffic to my site when I started it, just wanted a way for friends and family to look me up…

  7. March 7th, 2007 at 14:50 | #7

I’ll reproduce this list but I’m removing Kumiko Suzuki. Her domain is blogger. That don’t count.

  8. March 7th, 2007 at 15:00 | #8

evil John . . hahaha . . someone should let kumiko know that http://www.kumikosuzuki.com is still available before some parks it! do you think she doesn’t do it because she might lose backlinks?

  9. March 7th, 2007 at 15:37 | #9

Thanks for the link Gary, but two things I’d like to mention:

    1) You mispelled my name. It’s Michael, not Micahel (Mica Hell?)

    2) If you want to be nit-picky, then my blog is at btr.michaelkwan.com whereas my main freelance writing business is at michaelkwan.com

  10. March 7th, 2007 at 15:52 | #10

Sorry about that Michael . . just fixed both of them, so hopefully traffic goes the right way!

  11. March 7th, 2007 at 16:06 | #11

Haha, I can group myself into that category too! My dad’s name is actually Gary as well.

  12. March 7th, 2007 at 16:42 | #12

I think it takes a lot of courage to choose a domain name that is your real name. :D
I’d like to see a repository for this list, though. I’d like to see a complete collection, not a chain letter.

  13. March 7th, 2007 at 17:22 | #13

I think my choice to use my name as my domain came more from laziness and lack of creativity than vanity. Anyway - I love the list idea and added the 3 I know to the cause: http://www.markrobinson.ca/2007/03/i-too-have-my-name-in-my-domain-do-you/

  14. March 7th, 2007 at 18:01 | #14

Wouldn’t it be narcissistic if you called your web site “http://handsomerichnbrilliant.com!” instead of your name? It’s my name! I didn’t name myself, my parents did. :)

  15. March 7th, 2007 at 18:05 | #15

you know . . . i got teased about that all the time in elementary school so that’s why i picked gary lee a couple of years ago ;)

  16. March 7th, 2007 at 18:39 | #16

Oww, too bad that my first name had been registered. I could use my full name. But that’s too long. Because my name is consist of first, middle, and last name.

  17. March 7th, 2007 at 20:07 | #17

Hey Gary, my name and domain is misspelled in the list, could you fix it?

Great Idea !! I will post this one also

  20. March 8th, 2007 at 00:27 | #20

Haha!!! I’m going to start a list of those that get voted off this list!!

    Kumiko
    xo

  21. March 8th, 2007 at 03:13 | #21

Gary, this is a great blog tag idea! You rule!

  22. March 8th, 2007 at 13:03 | #22
  23. March 8th, 2007 at 19:17 | #23

Thak you, Gary. Hope your list does as well as mine has been doing. If you have anymore blogs in other areas let me know. I have a couple more lists I’m going to start this week ;).

  24. March 8th, 2007 at 21:10 | #24

I’ve followed the dot com mogul rules, and one day, maybe just one day, I can also be a dot com mogul!!!

Too bad Kumiko was voted off! There, there Kumiko, you’re welcome at my site anytime!

  25. March 8th, 2007 at 22:20 | #25

This meme seems to be catching on like wildfire. I really wish I had a blog up on my named domain. Maybe next time. :)

  26. March 9th, 2007 at 06:01 | #26

This is such a great idea. I made a static page on my site with an alphabetized list of narcissistic bloggers here :)

  27. March 9th, 2007 at 16:36 | #27

I still get frustrated to this very day that I had to go with ‘armensblog.com’
Some nasty person has armen.com and isn’t even using it - and won’t sell it.

And armenthomassian.com is just way too long!!

However, this is a good idea you’ve come up with.

  30. March 28th, 2007 at 16:51 | #30

  31. April 2nd, 2007 at 06:27 | #31

    I just don’t think I get it…maybe I am slow…LOL

  32. May 9th, 2007 at 14:11 | #32

Hey, Gary, what do I do when more people start from mine, other than there posting about it. Do I add there name and link to my list ?

    Thank you Gary !

  33. May 9th, 2007 at 14:40 | #33

Hey Greg . . . all you have to do is make sure you add 3 or more brand new blogs that haven’t done the train to the original list and then post it on your blog. it should take off from there. You don’t have to add anyone after that!

  34. May 9th, 2007 at 16:03 | #34

    Thank you Gary !
