The Future of Videos in Google SERPs
With the announcement last week by Google that it will be combining news and video with it’s web search results, learning how to optimize your Video for search results has become more important than ever.
Imagine if you’re selling toy cars and someone does a search on toy cars in Google. Don’t you want your video at the top so that you can show them a quick 10-15 second commercial of what your online store offers? Imagine John Chow coming up with another evil scheme to get his readers to link to a quick 10-15 second clip on “How to make money online with John Chow,” so when people search for his famous tagline “Make Money Online,” they not only see his website indexed, but also a video clip indexed of who John Chow is and what he can do for you. If he ever does this, this will solidify my theory that John truly is the first money making web evanglist on the net!
In any case, I’ve been doing my research around the net about optimizing video, with embedded YouTube videos of particular interest. It seems that the process of optimizing video for the SERPs is not much different than it was before, where you were responsible for tagging the correct words to the video and then hope people embed your video onto their site for the backlink. There are some varying theories on what one can do to get their videos ranked but all they are right now are just theories.
What are your thoughts on the future of Video Clips in your Search Engine Results? What have you done to optimize video you’ve posted? Do you think this is the future of internet advertising? Do you think you’re going to voluntarily click on these commercials?
