Trying my Poetry Skills

Posted in Observations on April 22nd, 2007

I was just tagged by the Queen of Musings with a poetry meme. She’s helped me get started by giving me the first line to work with - “Roses are Red” - so here’s what I could come up with:

Roses are Red
Violets are Blue
The Queen come a calling
And Said “What about you?”

So, I think and I Ponder
My Mind starts to Wander
Will My Lakers beat the Suns?
Jessica Alba has Nice Buns
How Easy it is in Virginia to Buy Guns

Then it comes to me
Some would say it’s an epiphany
As the Dark becomes Light
And I begin to write . . . . .

Yes, it sounds like a 3rd grader wrote it, but the poems that rhyme are the only ones I’ve ever learn to write. I do have to admit I have a certain appreciation of it after watching a couple of seasons of HBO’s Def Poetry Jams ( a show I highly recommend to everyone)! I wish I could write spoken word poetry like these great poets!

So ya . . now it’s time to tag people and so here I go:

I can’t wait to see if these 3 ladies can top my poem!

[…] here we are, sitting in class on a Monday morning, and my teacher, Mr. Gary Lee has asked me to write a poem starting with the first sentence Roses are red. Gosh I still hate […]

I think you’re better’n a 3rd grader! I mean, “epiphany?” I don’t think that a third grader would have that word in his vocabulary!

Funny, creative, it rhymes - works for me! I didn’t mean to give you a first line but it’s added an interesting twist to the meme if we request that each person we tag has to include a line we give ‘em!

Thanks for being such a great sport!

Mr. Gary Lee
Aspiring Internet Marketer and ABC.
He assented with grace,
wasn’t worried about face.
He stuck with tradition
what with violets and blue.
He lacked inhibition( guns and buns - who knew?)
Mr. Gary Lee wrote poetry -
not at all pee-yew!

Unlike this, penned by the Inimitable Ms. Q

If you link up thispost to Stretsh’ original meme, he’ll include your efforts:
