Why Time Goes By Faster with Age
As my friends and I get older, one thing we are always amazed at is how time seems to fly by as we get older. As a youngster when energy was limitless and the activities were abundant, those afternoons of riding my bike, playing football and shooting hoops seem to always last forever. The summer vacations were actually long enough that asĀ September approached and the leaves began to turn color, I looked forward to seeing my friends again in class and around campus. Once the “real world” began and I had to go into the office 8 Hours a Day, 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year, my January so quickly became my June which blurred into my December. When people asked my age, I had to take a moment and think about it before I answered in order to do the math!
Like many others, I have asked myself “why’s life going so fast and how can I slow it down?”One day I asked the question and to my surprise, my friend said she had the answer - to just one of the questions. One less question to answer in life is fine by me, so I told her to lay it on me. She explained a lot more eloquently than I’m about to explain it, but I’m sure you’ll be smart enough to get the point:
Imagine a baby being born into the world. As that baby celebrates his first birthday, we will also say that he has just lived 1 year or his 1 year life. As the baby celebrates his 2nd birthday, he has just lived 1 year out of his 2 year life. So, the experiences this baby just went through this past year accounted for half of his life’s experiences. So as he approaches his 5th bday, the year he just lived was only 1/5th of his Life’s experiences. As you can see, once you start hitting the 20’s and the 30’s, the year’s start to become a blur when compared to the year’s you experienced in your youth.
I’ve always liked this theory as it’s logical, but I’m sure there are many other theories out there like this one by Eric Antonow on Ronni Bennett’s blog. I would love to hear what others have to say about their theories on time and age, but if not, I hope I’ve shed some light on at least once explanation.

Yeah, it only makes sense that time passes faster with each year. Although, I still feel like Im 18, but then again Im becoming less active and that’s not good… Thankfully the summer is coming so I’ll have more time to kick it,yo!!!
I forgot to add that I’m also going to keep it real!
I’ve heard this from my older brother since I was a boy…and oh how true it is. After graduating high school I looked back and could still vividly remember walking into my first class freshman year…now almost a junior in college it seems meeting my girlfriend my freshman year was yesterday!
When I’m 30…40…50? How fast will it go?
